Village of Rainbows by Catherine Lockhart is a short story published in the Night Time Economy anthology from Floodgate Press. Set in Birmingham's Gay Village during Birmingham Pride weekend, the story is a tale of queer nightlife, love and friendship, and is a love letter to the local LGBTQ+ community.
Night Time Economy (2024) is published by Floodgate Press which champions new, essential writing from Birmingham and the West Midlands. Their books also include Digbeth Stories (2023).

Body Odyssey is a "powerful anthology of feminist poetry that weaves together the raw and resonant voices of women and non-binary writers exploring themes of girlhood, body, belonging, mind, memory and afterlife. This collection offers an intimate look at the diverse experiences of growing up, the complexities of identity and the enduring strength found in rebirth.
Catherine Lockhart's poem, 'Shrink' — which explores the complex feeling of living in a world that makes us believe we should take up less space and be less visible — features in this first anthology of poetry from Heroica. The poem was longlisted alongside over 80 other writers, chosen from over a thousand submissions.
Body Odyssey by Heroica
Championing new and emerging writers alongside established authors, the anthology features voices across all narrative forms including fiction, poetry, memoir, essay and flash-fiction. The anthology will comprise of 30 pieces, the winning entries from an international competition to capture the best of queer writing today.

ABOUT
Catherine Lockhart is a queer, freelance writer, author and poet based in the West Midlands. Her short story, ‘Village of Rainbows’ was published in the 'Night Time Economy' anthology from Floodgate Press which was launched at an event with Voce Books, Birmingham in September 2024.
Her poetry has been archived in Bishopsgate Institute as part of Switchboard’s 50th Anniversary competition, and her poem ‘Shrink’ published in Heroica’s first anthology 'Body Odyssey' in October 2024.
Her short story, 'Mother-in-Law's Tongue' has also been longlisted by Mslexia; the bestselling quarterly magazine for women who write.
Her work explores themes of grief and mental health, nature, and the LGBTQ+ community, friendship, love and history.
